5.0 out of 5 stars Solid Guitar for a Great Price, November 12, 2011
This review is from: Yamaha CGS104A Classical Guitar (Electronics)
First of all, I'm not a musician, just a dad who needed a classical guitar for a young teen trying to start lessons. I went with this Yamaha because of the guitar teachers's recommendation. Maybe this one is an older model (as is often the case when a teacher is recommending the same model every year). Regardless, it sounds just great and has held up fine in the month since we received it. By the way, the shipping was killer good. Massive double-boxing and overnight shipping for a few dollars...can't believe it. My only other comparison is a Jasmine/Takamine acoustic we bought a few months earlier. There are some notches in the fret already...can't believe the poor quality on that. In comparison, this Yamaha does live up to the Yamaha name.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good for the price point, March 9, 2011

The guitar I received is much lighter in color than the on in the product picture but it seems to be of quality construction. The higher strings don't have much sustain, but we are talking about a 1/4 scale with nylon strings so I'm not to surprised. The finish is very nice with a the light colored top and deep brown back and sides. The bridge and neck attachments seems sturdy, but only time will tell. I was playing around with a First Act kids guitar at a friends house which sells for around $30, but this seems like it is worth the extra $20 and I like the nylon strings which don't strike me as having the cheese-grater tendency of the thinner gauge steel strings. So basically I am happy with the purchase and will update if there are any issues with my 4 year old's use/abuse.

This classical guitar is ideal for a young child. It is such a good price and it plays very good. I highly recommend it to first time guitar seekers of young children.

I felt the guitar was much larger than a 1/4 size guitar. The body was equal in size to our 1/2 size guitar so it was too big for my 3 1/2 year old. I measured the guitar roughly at 31"x11.75"x3.25". It was hard to find 1/4 guitar so we ended up with a Mahalo uke guitar which fits him pretty well at approx 30"x8.5"x3". Other than that, it was fine but nothing special. We also thought the Valencia VG-160 1/4 size Classical Guitar was very nice. Its sized in between the other two at approx 31"x10.75x3.25", has a nice sound, and nice classical look.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant sound and holds tuning, August 24, 2011

We love this guitar, it has a very pleasant sound and has been very easy to play on. We had previously purchase a very cheap ukulele and it goes out of tune almost immediately after you tune it. This little guitar holds perfectly well. We have a nicer full size acoustic guitar too, so this has been a welcome addition for our young kids to play, and not too expensive - we are new to guitar in general though we were recommended to buy this from a guitar teacher.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice Instrument - sounds better than our full sized one, November 15, 2011
This review is from: Yamaha CGS102A 1/2 Size Classical Guitar (Electronics)
We bought this as a present for our five year old, who insisted on getting a guitar for his birthday. Instead of this version we got one that came in a bundle with a music stand, electronic tuner and some other goodies. This is the smallest guitar size there is - everything smaller is either a toy or not a guitar. Stay away from toy guitars if you want your kid to have any chance at all to pick up an interest in actual guitar play.

The guitar is too big for our now five year old, so he will have to wait a while before he can actually learn how to play it properly. But he does enjoy the sound of it. So do we. We have a full sized guitar at home as well, from a different brand - and this one sounds better! So we use his guitar to sing songs together.

The first three strings are nylon, the other three steel. I have read in countless reviews that new nylon strings don't hold the tune very well the first two weeks, until they are settled. We didn't encounter this... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Sound from this small Yamaha, February 12, 2012
This review is from: Yamaha CGS102A 1/2 Size Classical Guitar (Electronics)
I bought this for my 7 year old daughter for Xmas and the sound is amazing. She can get her hands around it and will be sure to get a few years out of it for lessons. The nylon strings are fine and could always be switched out but are good for the beginner learner.
